DAY – 01

Pick from Skardu airport and departure for Skardu

Enroute after 30 minutes see the upper Kachura Lake.

The Kachura Lakes are two of the lakes in Skardu; the Upper Kachura Lake and Lower Kachura Lake.

Upper Kachura Lake is a lake of clear water having a depth of 70 meters. In summer it has a temperature of 15 degree Celsius. In winter the surface is frozen solid.

Continue for Shangrila Resort Skardu named after a book titled “LOST HORIZON” by James Hilton. In the book, the author narrates a fictions tae in which an aero plane crash landed near a riverbed, in the early 1920’s. The surviving passengers cam across some Buddhist monks from a nearby temple and sought their help. They were taken to a beautiful lamasery filled with a variety of fruits and flowers. The monks looked quite young, although they claimed to be hundreds of years old. The idyllic place was called Shangri-La, a Chinese word meaning “HEAVEN ON EARTH”.
