Visa Requirements:

Tourists of SAARC countries and People’s Republic of China get visa on arrival.

Health Requirements:

Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is needed for travellers arriving within 6 days from infected areas.
Cholera is a serious risk in this country and precautions are essential.

 

Currency:

The unit of Nepalese currency is Rupee (NPR). One US Dollar is equivalent to 71.3223 NPR.

 

Banking Hours:

Banks in Nepal open to the public from 1000 hours to 1430 hours from Sunday to Friday. They are closed on Saturdays and other holidays.

 

Clothing:

Clothing depends on place and time. Medium-weight and easy to wash cottons can be a good choice year round in the Kathmandu valley. It is recommended to carry woolen sweaters, jackets or similar other warm outfits while visiting Nepal from October to February.

 

Climate:

Climate varies with its topography. It ranges from tropical to arctic depending upon the altitude. The Terai region, which lies in the tropical southern part of the country, for instance, has a hot, humid climate. The mid-land regions are pleasant almost all year round, although winter nights are cool. The northern mountain region, around an altitude above 3,353 meters has an alpine climate with a considerably lower temperature in winter as can be expected.

 

Language:

Many different ethnic groups have their own languages or dialects, but Nepali, the national language, written in Devnagari script, serves the purpose of the Kingdom's lingua-franca in Nepal. The educated people speak and understand English, as well.

 

Religion:

Hinduism and Buddhism constitute two major religions of Nepal sharing between them some 86.5 and 7.8 percent of the total population respectively. Both these co-religionist are bound together by a sense of fellow-feeling and bonhomie particularly displayed in their worship of common deities and joint celebration of many festivals belonging to either religion. Kumari, the Virgin Hindu Goddess, for instance, is selected from a Buddhist clan.

Kathmandu (KTM) (Tribhuvan) is 6.5kms east of the city (travel time – 20 minutes). Airport facilities include bank/bureau de change, duty-free shop, post office, refreshments and tourist information.

Road:

There are taxis, auto rickshaws, motorcycles, bicycles available in Kathmandu. Travelling by bus is recommended If you can cope with long hours ride in return for fascinating views of valleys, mountains and snail-tail roads.

 

Rail:

Nepal Janakpur-Jayanager Railway (NJJR) operates freight and passenger service in the eastern Terai.
