HOLIDAY IN MALAYSIA

Beaches & Islands:

Ranging from the powdery stretches of sand that characterise the eastern coastline of Peninsular Malaysia to the black sand beach of Pantai Pasir Hitam and the smooth pebble beach of Pantai Batu Kerikil, Malaysia's shores offer more idyllic locales than one could explore in many lifetimes. Malaysian beaches are noticeably different from those in other parts of the world. They are often less differentiated from the shoreline than those of the Caribbean.

Leisure Activities:

Malaysia has a long coastline with several offshore islands. Oki and sea sports are coming to the fore. There are plenty of opportunities to water-ski, paraglide, scuba dive, wind-surf or snorkel in the many islands and marine parks found throughout the country.

Eating Out:

Malaysia is a country renowned for its creative, complex and lovingly prepared original cuisine. Food is taken very seriously here, from the five-star restaurants right down to the hawkers' booths. Sauces tend to be highly developed, often incorporating local fruits and spices.

Shopping:

Shopping is an increasingly exciting part of a Malaysian Holiday. Malls usually open from 10am to 10pm but boutiques may operate for shorter hours. Prices are fixed in departmental stores but elsewhere bargaining is worth trying. Central Market is a good place to scout for souvenirs, handicrafts and antiques. The Cultural Craft Complex in Jalan Conlay sells a comprehensive selection of handicrafts like batik, sonket, pewter baskets and beadwork.

Nightlife:

Kuala Lumpur is lively at night; larger hotels having cocktail lounges, dining, dancing and cultural shows. There are night markets in most towns, including both Kuala Lumpur and Penang China town.
